June 23rd, 2009: Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council and National Security Advisor H.H Sheikh Hazza' Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan on Wednesday issued a decision setting up the Women Football Committee. The decision appointed Mrs. Hafsa Al-Ulama as chairman of the Committee and Talal Al-Hashimi as deputy chairman. Membership of the new sports body include Nada Al-Hashimi, Amal Abu Shlakh, Nada Al-Harbi, Dr Aisha Al-Busmit, representative of the UAE Football Association, and Alya Al-Hosani, representative of Abu Dhabi Educational Council. The decision aims to further boost women football in the UAE following a recent agreement between Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the UAE Football Association to boost women's contribution to sports and set up women teams to engage in local and international competitions. Abu Dhabi women football team hosted and/or organized a number of local and Arab championships. It also won the Arab Championship title in 2007.
