June 22, 2009 (WAM)--Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) in Abu Dhabi and German GlobalFoundries, have with the support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the office of the Prime Minister of Saxony, organised a Summer Internship Programmme for outstanding students in the company's factory in Dresden, Germany, which will commence from 27 June to Aug. 02, 2009. The move follows directives from HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Education Council(ADEC).
The programme will include theoretical, practical and cultural activities aiming to enhance students' personal and professional skills. This was announced during a press conference hosted by ADEC in the Armed Forces Officers Club, where the students and their parents were present on Sunday, June 21, 2009. HE Dr Mugheer Khamis Al-Khaili, the Director General of ADEC said that "this grant emphasises the eagerness of our leadership to provide university/college outstanding students with the necessary training programmes so they can obtain exposure to the most advanced technologies to gain experience that will allow them to apply this knew knowledge and contribute positively to the development and progress of their country.
"A number of chaperons will be accompanying the students to ensure the appropriate care is provided to them and ADEC will be in touch with our students until they return to their families in the UAE", Dr. Al-Khaili said. He lauded the commitment of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and the support of HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and ADEC's Vice-Chairman, for all ADEC's initiatives and programmes aimed at improving the academic and practical skills of students.
HE Klaus-Peter Brandes, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the UAE commended the existing partnership between the two countries, noting that the students in this programme will lay the foundations for a world class research and industrial cluster in Abu Dhabi for cutting edge microchip technology. HE Ahmed Al-Kalily, Director General of Technology Development Committee congratulated the students and expressed his best wishes for them during the Summer Training Programme in Germany, urging them to benefit from the programme. "This programme marks a significant milestone for us; it enables us to engage our students in a meaningful way, and is a logical step in establishing Abu Dhabi as a centre of high tech excellence." Al-Kalily said. The students expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince for his continuous support.
