November 20, 2008, RAS AL KAHIMAH – The Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has banned the sale of fruit and vegetables on roads in the emirate from next week. It also set new regulations for proper storage of meat. The Chairman of RAK Municipality, Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, said “All traders selling fruit and vegetables must transfer their businesses and products to the fruit and vegetable markets in the emirate,” reported Khaleej Times.
He added that the move was intended to clean up the emirate’s streets and improve storage hygiene.
The Chief of the Environment and Health Department, Adil Ali Al Deek, said all meat sellers have been ordered to store their products in refrigerators to ensure proper food safety. He said fines starting from AED 500 would be imposed on the errant traders.
