Jul 3, 2009 (WAM): The total number of passengers, who arrived through the Al-Ghuwaifat boarder crossing between UAE and Saudi Arabia during the first five months of the current year reached 498,863, while the number of departures stood at 510,479 during the same period, according to an official. Chief of the Al-Ghuwaifat boarder security Police Major Salem Saeed Al Amiri said that the police has stepped up efforts to ease passenger movement through the boarder crossing during summer to help those who travel by land. Many holiday makers travel to the Middle Eastern countries by land passing through UAE's Al-Ghuwaifat boarder crossing and Saudi Arabia's Al-Batha checkpoint.
Al Amiri said that additional traffic bays have been set up at Al-Ghuwaifat to ease up traffic flow and the procedures won't take more than two minutes for citizens and four minutes for expatriates. A special bay for families has also been allocated to help them pass through the procedures without waiting, he added. This will also enormously help those who travel to UAE by land to spend their holidays. Al Amiri noted.
