June 19,2009 (WAM) - British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Security and Counter-Terrorism, Admiral The Lord West of Spithead, accompanied by the HM Consul General Guy Warrington, visited Emirates Group Security headquarters in recognition of the close cooperation and assistance in border enforcement and aviation security. The visitors were also briefed on Transguard Group and its roles in the support of Group Security's mission. They toured the purpose-built headquarters for Emirates Group Security and its Transguard business divisions - a one-stop centre designed to efficiently and securely handle valuables for commercial and international shipping. Special focus was placed on strengthening the barriers in aviation security through Emirates' in-house security education programme.

The British Embassy in the UAE said of the visit, "The Minister was impressed by the professionalism of both Emirates Security and Transguard and was particularly impressed with the use of life-long learning and vocational education as the basis for career advancement and job development." Dr Abdulla Al Hashimi, Divisional Senior Vice President Emirates Group Security, said, "The role played by airlines in border control and aviation security is increasingly important and the visit by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Security and Counter-Terrorism reflects this. "The development of a strong relationship between industry and states allow for airlines to develop a greater integrated approach to border control and aviation security which facilitates passengers better.
